Summary:

How to understand the story of chronic illness, be an ally to clients and orient towards a successful therapeutic alliance, with a brief overview of popular mental health treatment options.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide therapists with an understanding of the compounding experiences of chronic illness and how this creates what I call a "360 degree attachment wound"
  • Help therapists to become an ally and advocate for their clients and create a positive, corrective experience of the medical care system
  • Provide therapists with an overview of some options for treatment approaches to consider when working with these clients

About Lorenne:
Lorenne Gavish is an intersectional feminist, advocate and therapist working at the nexus of social justice and mental/physical health to join lived experience, a disability justice framework, mindfulness, attachment-based approaches and more to support the needs and rights of those living with chronic illness.
