The Awards and Scholarships Committee was initiated in 2005. The Awards and Scholarship Committee is charged with selecting award winners in three categories:

The first category is comprised of experienced social work practitioners. The second and third categories are awards to social work students. The Ina Mae Denham Award is presented to a graduating MSW student who has submitted the best paper describing their description and application of an appropriate theory to a case in their own practice. This award is given to the winning paper in each of the two Denver degree granting universities. A $1000 scholarship is also awarded to a concentration year graduate student at the University of Denver who is specializing in clinical practice.

Committee members review submissions and make the final recommendation to the Board of Directors for approval in both the scholarship and clinical paper awards. The board selects the winners of the social work month awards following nominations by the entire CSCSW membership.

For the annual Social Work Month Awards, two CSCSW members are recognized for their achievements as most distinguished clinician and for community service. A third award, which may be given to a CSCSW member or to a non-member, is designated to honor a community member who has advocated for social work causes and advanced the profession of social work. The President’s award, made at the discretion of the CSCSW president, is given at CSCSW’s annual meeting.

The Education Committee plans and provides enriching classes, seminars and conferences for CSCSW members and the professional community. This is often done in collaboration with other organizations in the community, for example University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, the Denver Psychoanalytic Society, and NASW.

Since 2002 this committee has sponsored a Salon Series, informal gatherings where members present interesting educational topics. The Salons have been very successful, a great way to learn, share information and socialize. They are in members’ homes the third week of each month, September through May, check the Salon Series page for dates and topics. At the beginning of each academic year, the full schedule of the Salon Series is published.

The CSCSW Events Committee works to provide members with opportunities to network, socialize, and build community through CSCSW sponsored events. This committee also helps to support educational events that are organized by the CSCSW Education Committee.

The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting new members and renewal of current members. 

The more members we have as a membership organization the more we will be able to provide quality educational programming, information about our profession and impact the local and national movement of Clinical Social Workers.

Mission Statement

To study issues of ethical standards for social work practice in Colorado, and to issue positions which represent interpretations of ethical standards of practice in Colorado.

The Committee has a two-fold purpose:

To support practitioners in making professional judgements in clinical situations; not a substitute for clinical supervision, case consultation, or legal consultation

To present a position that represents an interpretation by the profession regarding ethical standards of practice in Colorado

Our dual regulatory system for the practice of social work in Colorado is composed of professional ethical standards of practice, and legal rules and regulations from the DORA Board of Social Work Examiners.

Authority for the Committee’s operation comes from the profession as represented by the NASWCO Board of Directors, a professional member organization.

The Committee is accountable to the NASWCO Board of Directors, and the Board Appoints the Chair and Committee members; reviews & Accepts Committee interpretations of standards of practice; Publishes the positions about standards of practice in Colorado.

The Practice Standards Committees is a dynamic committee which has developed guidelines on issues such as dual role relationships, termination, working with children and their families, disclosures, informed consent, professional wills, ethical dilemmas in third party situations, supervision, and use of the electronic media. Practice Standards guidelines are available on NASWCO and the CSCSW websites.
