"Getting Started in Private Practice" is a workshop for mental health professionals who are looking to get into private practice and those already in private practice, who are looking for additional support. This workshop is open to all mental health professionals with at least a Master's Degree. 8 CEUs. Presented via Zoom.

About the Speakers:

Elizabeth Schulte, LCSW
Presenting "Money Matters: Business Plans, Financial Records, and Taxes"

Liz is an MSW graduate of DU GSSW and an LCSW in Colorado, and is currently working towards her PhD in Clinical Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. Liz is the former Chair of the NASW-CO and CSCSW Practice Standards Committee, the former President of CSCSW, and currently serves as the CSCSW Board Treasurer.

Liz has been a clinical social worker for over 15 years, and has been in private practice since 2012 working with individuals across the life-span. As part of her private practice, Liz supervises first and second year MSW interns, supervises social workers and LPCs working towards clinical licensure in Colorado, and provides post-licensure consultation to social workers in support of their clinical practice. Liz is also a former accountant who consults with mental health professionals to help them organize the financial aspects of their private practice.

Balin Anderson, LCSW
Presenting "Building a Solid Foundation for your Practice"

Balin Anderson, LCSW will be talking with you about the logistics of starting a private practice. She's wonderfully detail-oriented AND she has started a private practice in two different states, so you can bet she knows her stuff!

She graduated from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. Following five years of clinical social work in the field of reproductive health care, she launched her private psychotherapy practice in New York City. Balin’s clinical focus is providing psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy to adolescents and adults. She is also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Balin is an adjunct faculty member at GSSW @ DU, where she teaches in the mental health concentration. She serves as the co-chair of the joint NASW and CSCSW Practice Standards Committee. Balin is excited to share with you some of her tips for establishing a solid foundation for your clinical social work practice.

Bethany Raab, LCSW, ACS
Presenting "Marketing Your Private Practice: Identifying Your Niche and Ethical Social Media Use"

Bethany is a DU GSSW graduate who has been a therapist for 15 years and in private practice for 9 years. Her clinical focus is adolescents who struggle with relationships. She provides group and individual supervision for social workers pursuing their LCSW. Bethany is the current President of the Colorado Society for Clinical Social Work. Previously she served as an Education Committee Co-Chair for CSCSW and Co-Chair of the NASW Private Practice Group.

In addition to marketing her own practice, Bethany is the voice behind the CSCSW Facebook page and Instagram account. She is excited to talk with participants about how to identify a practice niche and ethically incorporate social media use into a private practice.

Gabrielle Juliano-Villani, LCSW
Presenting “How to Work with Medicare in Private Practice”

Gabrielle is a licensed clinical social worker living in Sarasota, FL. Her business is based in Colorado where she practiced until Aug 2020. Gabrielle founded Colorado In-Home Counseling in 2017, providing in-home counseling to seniors and disabled adults. Over the years, Colorado In-Home Counseling has grown to 12 therapists, all LCSWs, who specialize in working with older adults, those with disabilities, chronic illness, and grief and loss. Gabrielle's team utilizes both behavioral and trauma-focused interventions modalities, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and mindfulness-based practices. Gabrielle began providing Medicare consultation in late 2020 as she noticed there was a deficit in clinicians understanding how Medicare works. Prior to private practice, Gabrielle worked in child protective services, as a victim’s advocate, in residential treatment, and as an in-home care manager for an insurance company. When Gabrielle is not working, you'll find her at the beach reading a psychological thriller or teaching Zumba.

Elissa Berlinger, LCSW
Presenting "Navigating DORA and Ethical Practice Standards"

Eilssa is an MSW graduate from Smith College School for Social Work. After receiving her MSW, she completed a two-year post-masters clinical social work fellowship in the Counseling and Psychiatry Services at the University of Colorado Boulder. While there she received advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, substance use, eating disorders, complex trauma, and group psychotherapy. She has been in private practice for over four years. Along with her work in private practice, she provides clinical supervision and consultation, supports the Rocky Mountain MS Center with educational and counseling services, and is an adjunct professor for the MSW Program at Metro State College of Denver. Elissa is a member of the CSCSW Practice Standards Committee.

Lindsey Robison, MSW, LSW
Presenting "How to Incorporate Technology Into Private Practice: Strategies and Considerations"

Lindsey is a 2018 graduate of the DU GSSW. She is in the process of achieving her clinical license and serves as the Membership Chair for CSCSW. Lindsey has experience working with adults with developmental, intellectual and acquired disabilities and is the Social Work Director at Rocky Mountain Stroke Center, a non-profit organization serving stroke survivors and their families. She is well versed in telehealth, as all of her group and individual sessions have been taking place virtually since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
