About this event

Salon:
"Grieving in Flannel: What a Bereaved Mom/Grief Therapist Most Wants You to Know About Child Loss"
Presentation by Jenny Robbins, LPC, CBC

Summary:
After honoring the fourteenth anniversary of her son's death with whitewater rafting and flannel shirt painting, Jenny shares what she most wants clinicians to know about walking alongside grieving parents. She speaks frankly about what made her unbearable path somehow bearable, and how child loss counseling differs from other therapy. She shares tried-and-true contemporary research and resources, and the practices that truly resonate with her grieving heart.  1.5 CEUs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Integrate insights from lived experience and contemporary grief research to enhance clinical care for bereaved parents.
  • Differentiate the unique counseling needs of bereaved parents from other forms of loss.
  • Recognize therapeutic responses that foster attunement and continuing bonds while avoiding interventions that invalidate grief.
  • Describe contemporary traumatic bereavement and child loss counseling theories and models

About the Presenter:
Jenny Robbins, LPC, CBC
Jenny Robbins' life changed forever in June 2012 when her 19-year-old son, Kade, drowned in a tiny mountain lake. She has since learned more than she ever dreamed she would about traumatic loss...as well as about integration and healing. Through her own therapist, a thanatologist, she realized that some therapists are trained in grief and some are not. A few years after her son's death, Jenny felt inspired to become the lifeline that her grief therapist was for her. She went back to school for her Master's, became a certified provider of traumatic bereavement care, and specializes in the sacred journey of child loss counseling.
